New Ordinance: Oversized Vehicles and Trailers Parking
On September 12, 2006, the Torrance City Council adopted Ordinance 3686 (the OV & Trailer Ordinance), which regulates the parking of oversized vehicles (OV) and trailers on public streets. The ordinance applies to all trailers as well as vehicles that exceed 20 feet in length, seven feet in width or eight feet in height. The OV & Trailer Ordinance also requires residents and visitors to observe any other provisions of the California Vehicle Code or Torrance Municipal Code prohibiting or limiting the standing or parking of vehicles.
City of Torrance Residents
If you own an oversized vehicle or trailer, you must follow these two steps:Step 1: Registration with the City of Torrance. By January 1, 2007, every resident owning an oversized vehicle or trailer, must register such vehicles or trailers with the City of Torrance. Upon a completed registration application, the Torrance Police Department will issue the resident an Oversized Vehicle/Trailer Parking Sticker. Registration applications will become available at the Torrance Police Department (3300 Civic Center Drive) or online at www.torrnet.com.
Step 2: Obtaining Daily Parking Permits. Beginning July 1, 2007, no oversized vehicle or trailer will be allowed to park on any public street without displaying a valid OV/Trailer Parking Permit. A resident is entitled to ninety-six permits lasting 24-hours each per year. The oversized vehicle or trailer must be parked directly in front of (or the side of the property if it is a corner lot) the owner's property. . Fees will be associated with the registration and parking permits. A fee study is presently being conducted and specific fees will be adopted by City Council at a later date. City of Torrance Visitors:
If traveling in an oversized vehicle or trailer, you must follow these two steps:
Step 1: Notification with the City of Torrance through application . Visitors of Torrance residents who are traveling with an OV or trailer must also obtain OV/Trailer Parking Permits from the City by filling out an application.
Step 2: Obtaining Daily Parking Permit. Visitors cannot obtain more than 14 consecutive parking permits. Each permit lasts 24 hours. No more than 30 parking permits per year can be issued to any visitor. Fees will be associated with the registration and parking permits. A fee study is presently being conducted and specific fees will be adopted by City Council at a later date. For both residents and visitors, no more than three consecutive permits (totaling 72 hours) can be issued at one time.
