Wednesday, November 15th - 7:00 - 9:00 PM
Our new Torrance Chief of Police, John Neu, was our featured speaker.
Did you know that Torrance received a ranking of the second-safest city in Los Angeles County from the recently released FBI statistics?! Chief Neu talked about crime in Torrance, and his strong belief in Focus Based Policing - a method of policing that enhances a connection with the community and responsibilities of community members as well.
See our November Meeting flyer for details.
Wednesday, September 20th - 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Our speaker was Frank Scotto, Mayor of Torrance. Mayor Scotto presented his vision for Torrance to a capacity audience at the Bartlett Center.
Our July Special Event, Thursday, August 17th was held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Torrance Historical Society. We hosted a 50's event -- "Rock Around the Block!"
With the heightened interest in preserving and researching the old homes in Old Torrance (and since May is Preservation Month), the OTNA invited Michael George, Reference Librarian for the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library, to give a presentation entitled, "If Walls Could Talk -- Researching the History of Your Home." His presentation included
- Searching for deed & title information
- Accessing information from the Los Angeles County Assessor's (what year was your house built, how much did your neighbor pay for his house?)
- Researching information on homes that were built prior to 1921 (county records, Sanborne Maps)
- Learning about homes built after 1921 (City Planning Department)
- Use of the Herald and other newspapers to find old real estate ads showing your house & how much your house sold for
Mr. & Mrs. Bunny arrived at El Prado Park (corner of El Prado & Arlington Ave.) on Easter Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for the 25th Annual Easter candy hunt and Bunny Hop Bop. The kids, grandkids and adults all had a great time! Seeing the children having so much fun is a great way to start your day. We'll see you next year for the 26th Annual Easter in El Prado Park!
At our March meeting, George Mannon, Ed.D., Superintendent of TUSD, discussed the uses of the proposed bond proceeds throughout the Torrance Unified School District, and the projected cost to property owners.
At our January meeting, Mr. Ted Semaan, Manager of Transportation Planning, Engineering Permits & Records Division for the City, presented an update to the City-wide Traffic Study.
